A World Without Cavitie

Cavities have long been a largely human affliction due mainly to our love of sugar. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to not have to worry about getting cavities?

Well, the sharks don't worry about decay! It turns out the teeth of the makos and tiger sharks are covered in a layer of 100% fluoride! (That would be like us walking around with a toothpaste coating on our teeth!) Having this fluoride protecting their teeth, these sharks have teeth that are less likely to decay than ours. Sharks may have the healthiest teeth in the animal kingdom! In fact, their teeth which are coated with fluoroapatites are less water-soluble than most mammal teeth, which are coated with hydoxyapatites. This means their teeth do not disintegrate in the harsh ocean environment. What a thought! Needless to say, great dental hygiene, especially fluoride, keeps your teeth healthy and beautiful. Next time you are watching Shark Week, be sure to appreciate their magnificent jaws.
